Cad is Ainm Duit?
Introducing the story behind our wine bar's name, 'Daróg'.
The inspiration for our name comes from Manchán Magan's (@ManchanMagan) book 'Tree Dogs, Banshee Fingers and other words for Nature' (illustrated by @doogsby). This beautifully illustrated book delves into the Irish language's enchanting descriptions of our natural world. As we celebrate World Book Day today, it's the perfect occasion to introduce the story behind our wine bar's name.
In Irish, 'Daróg' translates to 'small oak tree.'
For us, the name holds deep significance. Edel, with roots in Kildare (Irish: Cill Dara, meaning 'church of the oak'), sees it as a nod to her heritage. Daróg is a cozy wine bar and it represents a place where we aim to establish our roots, much like an oak tree. And, of course, its name pays homage to the oak barrel, where the magic of wine fermentation happens.
